It is always lovely to hear how much families are enjoying their time here at Lower Mill and messages like these make all the hard work and dedication from our brilliant team worthwhile.
A special thanks to Terry and Jenny from Family Adventure Store who are an absolute joy to work with; their enthusiasm and passion for the great outdoors is both inspiring and infectious!
“Dear Emily, Terry and Jenny
We were a party of nine on holiday at Lower Mill through Habitat Escapes to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Our party was Anthony (77), Heather (73), our children Gemma (48) and Jason (46), and our grandchildren George (14), the identical twins William and Oliver (12), Millie (11) and Hugo (9).
After an early start we were taken to our canoes and allocated our paddling pairings. We all learned fairly quickly the first steps of canoeing and much enjoyed the excursion across the large lake to the beaver enclosure where we paddled quietly round looking at their lodges. Terry and Jenny gave us welcome information about the creation of the enclosure and the habits of the animals. We learned a great deal about beavers but were a bit sorry not to have spotted one of the residents. It was a lovely experience. That same evening three of us walked round to the enclosure at 9.45 and stood quietly on the slipway until we did see a beaver swimming past one of the lodges. That made it particularly worthwhile.
At 5.00 pm that same day seven of us went back to the meeting point and were taken to another lake to try for the first time stand up boarding. Despite a difficult onshore wind making it hard to paddle out into open water we all gained some elementary skill in standing and paddling. All of managed individually to complete the circuit out to the two buoys and back and were proud of our achievements. Finally the five grandchildren had a splendid romp on the boards two at a time and succeeded in doing twizzle jumps and jousting against each other. It was difficult to get them out of the lake at the final end of the session.
I asked each of them last week for their short comment on the day and this what what they said:-
George (14) “Rivetting ……jolly good fun”
William (12) “Extremely knowledgeable and helpful guides”
Oliver (12) “Brilliant facilities”
Millie (11) “Wonderful wildlife”
Gemma (48) “Well worth the early morning start”
Heather (73) “Delightful guides”
Jason (46) “SUP was tremendous fun and all the children became confident and capable. An exciting hour”
So, in summary, it was a day to remember and has instilled in all of us a feeling that we rose to the challenge and loved it.
Thanks again, Anthony Blakemore (77). Edgbaston, Birmingham 3rd September 2016″
